Paper publications profile Design Probes, too!

There was a number of traditional, 'paper' publications that have recently wrote about Design Probes by Philips Design. Most honorable is an inclusion of the Design Probes program into the Dutch Yearbook of Design anno 2009 - see the cover of the book on the left, and entire fold devoted to the probes below.

It's interesting that the main image used in the book is from the SMELL probe, developed in collaboration with…

Yet another blog is profiling Design Probes, adding to the growing volumes of web-based publications. Dogpart in Me, a prominent French blog on design, new media and art, posted a piece on Food Design Probes by Philips. The use of new set of pictures only enhanced already a very positive coverage of the probe.

Q: so you feel that Design is useless?

Design has been amusing for a while, like a new kind of… Continue

The word design originates from the Latin word designare meaning de-sign. On the other hand, nosign means no-sign which has no signature on it. Nosigner is somebody who designs invisible thing without explicit signature.

Food Probe is seen as "Your Future Kitchen"

The Pitch, food-related blog from Kansas, US, publishes a short article titled "Your Future Kitchen" where profiles Philips Design's Food probe.

I like that fact the the probes are seen as "a slightly more practical approach than Disney World's House of the Future." :) The image used for the paper does, in fact, says something opposite - a… Continue

Robot chefs

I found this article about a restaurant with robot noodle cooks working in the kitchen. They do a few robot performance tricks to entertain guests.

Personally I just find it sad and depressing that real human skills and passion are being replaced by precise automata. I guess this is where our love of fast and convenient food is leading us to.

The prepackaged supermarket meals… Continue

Food for Thought...

The 3 Food related probe ‘provocations’ come out of work we have been doing on the future of food over the last year or so. When we start a project like this we don’t work with a specific brief – we define a terrain and form a pretty diverse team that looks at everything interesting in the field. We are generally less interested in design and technology trends at this stage and very sensitive to political, economic and environmental turbulence. The Habitat probe that we… Continue
