Last August LEGO (the building bricks) launched a new set of Mindstorm products.
Lego mindstorms is a line of programmable robotics/construction toys which originated from programmable sensor blocks that were used in the line of educational toys. The new series features a sound editor, an image editor, a color sensor, 2 touch sensors, an ultrasonic sensor, 3 servo motors and the NXT brick, which is the programmable core that reads the sensors and controls the motors and can be programmed with NXT-G and various third-party software. Next to this there are also 619 pieces included to make a shooting-robo-colorsorter-walking and biting-alpha rex… or something else of course. The name 'Mindstorms' was derived from a book written by Seymour Papert, which proposes a unique computer-based learning environment called the Microworld. His primary belief about the Microworld's design is that it compliments the natural knowledge building mechanisms of children, known as a constructivist approach to knowing and learning.
.. I hope this will provide you with a firmly grounded excuse to go to the nearest toy shop and start building.
